In 2011, Yap ventured into acting on ABS-CBN with his debut in "My Binondo Girl," portraying Kim Chiu's father, Chen Sy. The following year, he took on a recurring role in "Walang Hanggan" as Henry de Dios. However, it was his portrayal of Richard "Sir Chief" Lim in the daytime drama "Be Careful with My Heart" that truly catapulted him to stardom, not just in the Philippines but also in other countries, earning him a widespread fan base. The show's success led to worldwide tours, concerts, an album, and broadcasts in various continents.
Following the conclusion of "Be Careful with My Heart," Yap appeared in "Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita," where he was paired with Vina Morales, and in "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," portraying the criminal underworld character Philip Tang. He also had special roles in "My Super D" and "Till I Met You.
In 2016, Yap reunited with Jodi Sta. Maria onscreen for the romantic film "The Achy Breaky Hearts," which became a box office hit, sparking calls for their return to television. In his singing career, Yap collaborated with Richard Poon on an album and a major concert. He also headlined the 2016 installment of Regal Films' "Mano Po" series, titled "Mano Po 7: Chinoy." On December 16, 2020, he signed a management contract with GMA Artist Center, marking a new chapter in his career
